Best Oil

Car is coming up for service, and was wondering, since it may not be going to dealer for this, which oil best recommended for it?

I was thinking of Magnetec (for future protection), or would a good synthetic one do better.

It is a '99 Avensis 2.0 (not VVTi)

Thanks

I believe the best oil for your car is a semi synthetic, such as Mobil 1. It is a bit expensive at around £25, depending on where you buy it. There are other cheaper makes, which I used on my previous car, a Carina, with no adverse effect.

Mobil 1 is fully synthetic. no doubt it's the best for the more beefy engines. Your bog standard engines are quite satisfied with a good mineral (Castrol) or a semi-synthetic. GM Vauxhall do a good deal on their semi synthetic. Buy 3 and get the 4th free. Add a traders discount and it's around £7 gallon.

At the end of the day, you should just stick to what's recommended in the manual as far as viscosity is concerned. Regarding it being mineral or synthetic is just down to how often you intend to change it. Synthetic is there for extended service intervals. You'd use mineral or semi if you were gonna change it regularly cause it could get rather expensive. I only bother with mineral or semi cause I change mine every 5000 miles or so.
