St202 Windscreen Washers

I wish I minded my DX

Hi all,

I'm new here and looking for a small bit of advice. I have a 1994 two litre ST202 jap import and the washer pump isn't running when I hit the switch. I pulled the plug off the pump and there seems to be twelve volts at all times at two of the wires and the third wire never seems to go live or to earth. Any idea where to look first because my NCT is on wednesday morning so under pressure for time!

Also while I'm asking someone might please clarify if my car is an SS II, which I think it is. It is 1994, two litre 3SGE, super stut suspension.

One last thing, we had it up on a lift and turned the front wheels and the two front wheels turned in the same direction, indicating to me that it has an LSD. Am I correct? Will it fit into an ST182?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Diarmuid

swap the rear motor for the front, or swap the plugs and use the rear wash switch to wash the fronts.

If or when you swap the plugs do both pumps run?

The inlet of the pump has a rubber prefilter which gets blocked up with limescale from the washer bottle, on a nice warm day shove a hose pipe into the washer bottle (right to the bottom) and flush it all out. It's a cheap and easy way, that may dislodge enough crud to help the pump work. If it does not work it's cost you nothing.

There is a guide on another forum. If you search.

After another look the car only has one pump with two outlets, front and rear. I checked the pump and it has twelve volts coming in the middle wire. When you press either the front or rear washer buttons either of the other two wires go to earth and operate an electronic relay mounted in the pump housing which turns the motor in the appropriate direction. My pump had corroded, lost it's motor brushes and the relay board fell apart. The good news is that I robbed on from my neighbours Carina E hatch which got me through the NCT and solved the prob.

Thanks for your help.

Any thoughts on what version my car is and whether it has an LSD and whether the box or diff fits straight into an ST182.

Thanks again
