Another Clutch Thread

Hi all, have had a look through the previous clutch threads but cant see anything exactly like my problems. On my D4d T3X, in the low temps, when I press in my clutch it just slips, absolutely no resistance whatsoever, when I pump the clutch a few times, it goes back to normal, however, 10 seconds later there is no resistance in the clutch, now this can last for ages, where I need to keep pumping the clutch before I can change gear, however yesterday and today where the temps are a lot milder (+5), when I started the car, needed to pump the clutch a few times to get it into reverse, then my clutch was back to normal for the rest of the day... No noises been coming from the clutch before during or after this started happening.

ive noticed in other clutch posts that gearbox oil has been mentioned but would that be linked to my clutch pedal?? The clutch pedal spring is sitting fine and as I said yesterday and today it has been back to perfect!

the temps definitely have something to do with it but would love to get to the bottom of it so any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks and regards

Markie

Hi mate,

first thing to check is the clutch master cylinder fluid level, if thats full then it could be either air in the system, master cylinder or slave cylinder seals failed. If you don't know how to do it yourself get someone who can to try bleeding any air from the system. This will also replace the old fluid which may also be contaminated with water over the years. If bleeding the air out doesn't solve it then the hydraulics will need attention and so the master or slave cylinder will need replacing. The gearbox oil has nothing to do with this problem but if you carry out the above you should be able to solve this fault.

Regards Pete.
