Hi all,

Im going to replace the head unit in my new Rav 4.2 ive just purchased and just wanted to know is there any particular way of taking the old one out? Im replacing with a adaptor plate so I can fit a single din unit in its place.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If its the type with silver trim either side and no visible screws, use an old bank or credit card to gently prise

the top and bottom of the trim. Once you have a big enough gap to get your fingers in, pull straight towards

you gripping top and bottom at the same time. Once trims are removed, you can see the screws holding the

stereo in place. It's a good idea to magnetise your socket, or stick blue-tak in it to stop the screws dropping

down into the dash when you remove them.

If its the type with one piece trim and visible screws, have a look here -

Hi,

Its not the one with the silver trim. The unit is the version which has cd and cassette players (who even has cassettes nowadays?). Are there little keys you put either side to pull it out at all for this version? I can see any trim coming off to expose som screws.

To be honest I've never seen the Rav with cassette player fitted. But if you dont have the trim with exposed screws, I think you

should have the other type I described, with two silver pieces of trim either side of the stereo as you can see from this photo of

my old 4.2 -
