Warning Lights

Lads, Ive just bought a 51 player VVTI.

I know its due a servise and MOT. An orange engine warning light came on over the weekend on a motorway drive. Wasnt booting it or anything, is it just a warning light to indicate "The Beast" is needing servised?

My knowlege of cars is, four wheels on the outside, one to make it turn and where the petrol goes lol!

There are no engine noises, no vibrations and in general its running as normal apart from this light.

The maual says to take it to a Toyota dealer on page 95 of the manual and on page 9 says "Malfunction indicator lamp"

Its not just a servise is it?

Cheers!

Hi and welcome to the club.

You will need to get the "CEL" Check Engine Light read as a fault has developed, this could be a number of things but usually an O2 sensor is at fault.

If you go to Mr T they will charge about £50 for the privilege of reading it and telling you it will be £XXX.XX to repair, or you can obtain an OBD2 reader from fleabay for about £25 and check it yourself, or you can see if anyone in your area has one HERE that could do the reading for you.

Cheers mate, if it is this O2 thing, is it a big/expensive job?

Best to find out the fault code before frightening you unnecessarily ;)
