been looking for a Rav 4 now for a few weeks and i came across this on wickepedia,

The second generation RAV4 was originally offered in a number of trim levels: NV was 2-wheel drive, while NRG, GX, and VX were permanent 4-wheel drive with differing levels of equipment.[

just wondering if the bit about 2 wheel drive is true as ive seen a 2003 d-4d NV at the right price and i wouldnt want to buy it only to find out too late.

Get down on your knees and look under the back wheels - if you see drive-shafts its a 4 wheel drive version. That's no no gaurantee its works correctly though.

In all honesty if you have any doubts get a second opinion from someone with the appropriate technical skills.:)

Thanks for answering, i would get down and have a look, only problem is the cars for sale 70 miles away from me and before anyone suggests phoning the dealer and asking, would you trust a second hand car dealer to tell you the truth.

Assuming the car dealer wants to sell the car what would he gain in lying about this aspect of the car?:)

Also you could phone and request the Reg No. and VIN number and the do an online check from the DVLA and also check if the vehicle has a valid MOT from http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/
