Hi folks,

this is just a broad question to all gen 3 owners.

who has the longest/biggest options list fitted to their car.

the reason i ask is because we have just had delivered to our dealership:

t-spirit with solar roof, leather, protection pack, style pack, we are also retro fitting (at dealer level) a dab kit and the ipod intergration kit.

can anyone beat that??????

You will have to define "beat".

I would consider it a defeat of common sense to have any of those options, other than the protection pack. I have the protection pack and the front sensor option and of course the 17" wheels without those silly plastics covers, not to mention an extra set of 15" alloys with winter tyres - so I think my options are winners compared with those that you list . . . . .

I presume they were all fitted to order - not very good choices in my view, but hey, vive la difference . . . . B)

T-spirit, metallic paint, protection, style and LED packs.

So no, not quite :)

Whoever ordered that has more money than sense. Those options will have cost thousands, but added zero to the book price of the car when he comes to part-ex or sell it. As a motor trader I know once quipped, "We sell the options. But we don't buy them".

Who the hell needs the solar roof in Northern Europe, anyway? I can see the value if you lived round the Med. But here?

And isn't the iPod integration kit redundant on T-Spirit cars which already have A2DP support?

 Well, good luck to them

I hope they enjoy their car ;)

Thanks a bunch!

(The Traveller, about to take delivery of his solar-roofed, Protection-packed T-Spirit on the 26th. Allegedly, after a 9-week delay from the original delivery date. Couldn't have the leathers he wanted on his company Prius because 'They're an option for Executives' and I'm a pleb, didn't want the Style Pack or the DAB, and ordered in August before the LED Pack but wouldn't have taken it anyway)

You may think that anyone who takes something more than the bog-standard basic model is a cretin, but you probably shouldn't make that criticism here, even implicitly.

As regards the Solar roof; We holiday on the continent for between 2 - 6 weeks a year, so it seemed like a good idea. Besides, my other half "wanted a sunroof" and it's the only way to get one. So "who needs one"? My missus! I'll let you deal with her......

AD2P; If I activate bluetooth on my BlackBerry the Battery life drops from around 6 - 7 days between recharges to more like 2. That's just for activating it, not using it. I don't like bluetooth and I'm damned if I want to play music over it, although I'll use it for hands-free in the car. That's as gimmicky as having a solar roof, given that you've got a CD/DVDslot that will play mp3's for you, so why use bluetooth? The music sector of the hard drive is a better idea on the T-Spirit, but woefully inadequate at 10GB and you can't upload your own mp3's onto it. Given that one can buy a 1000GB hard drive in a fully-interfaced box for your desktop PC for only £70 I can't see any justification for having a pitifully small 40GB drive for the Nav and audio to share. For these reasons I'm going to get the iPod/USB integration kit installed by the dealers locally. Yes it's d*mned expensive by comparison with other manufacturers, but so is going out and buying an iPod/iPhone to plug into the standard fitted port. A 16GB USB stick is vanishingly small, relatively inexpensive and will hold about a third of my collection. I might even investigate whether the ampage through the interface will support a small portable hard drive of around 250GB

Personally I'd love to have had an option on the p*sspoor Denso SatNav, which is redundant IMHO. Expensive to upgrade the mapping and unable to load your own PoI, like safety cameras. Poorly spec'ed in this day and age. So I'm sticking with the Garmin for that reason.

It's certainly horses for courses as they say.

My options were just metallic paint and leather. This is a private car and I intend to keep it for maybe 4 or 5 years (or Islington council installs a charge point outside my flat and I consider a plug in Prius).

I didnt like the cloth seats so leather made sense to me.

I would have liked the LED lights but they werent available when I ordered my car in June.

I dont like sunroofs myself but I can fully understand someone wanting the solar roof. Huge wait though - this alone would have put me off.

The 17" wheels are alloy - its the 15" wheels that have the plastic covers.

I like the SatNav, its rescued me a few times when I've got lost. It certainly doesnt know shortcuts but it will get you home or too your destination. I never use it day to day just for when I'm going somewhere new.

Jukebox is nice to have and I have my favourite LPs on it. I also use CD and DVDs with MP3's as well which works well. I've also sometimes connected my iPod in but rarely do this.

I find the rear camera and electric mirrors great for helping me park so I didnt see the point of the protection or style packs myself.

I tend to leave the bluetooth on my Blackberry on and have gotten used to it auto synching in the car. I've not streamed music over it - what's the point really?

I'd have the solar roof (for the tech) plus the sunroof is great for the light and improved venting. As for the dreadful 15" rims they'd have to go. Your local Toyota Centre will not spec a solar car with the OEM 17" in fear of a major fine from Toyota GB but when I questioned GB on this they advised to drive the car off the forecourt and turn back round to the Centre and order some OEM 17"s. The Centre would propably need to order the 17" rims using some other VIN number though. ;)

You could always get some spanking 17" TRD rims.:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

For some strange reason, the 15" wheels are also alloy underneath the plastic covers.

Tasty alloys Habu. But the cheapest I could find those in the UK would have exceeded £800 for the metal alone, plus whatever for the rubber to adorn them. I'd expect no change from £1200.

Out of my price range. I'll get a 2nd set as this year wears on, no doubt, because of what our friends here have been saying about 'winter' tyres. If they are commonsense to have, then it's equally sensible to keep the 2nd set on a different set of rims. No risk of butchering the rubber when you swap over that way.

I'll look for something more in my reach, 17" would be desirable. I wonder what other sizes are available? Never looked into buying aftermarket alloys before, not sure where to start.... rims, tyres, offsets, it's a whole different language.
