Rav4 Foglight.....and Now Electrics.....

I have a 1998 Rav4 Freesport and tonight put the foglight on. When I did this, the clock reset to 01:00 and now the light buzzer doesn't work, neither does the buzzer that used to ring when the key was in the ignition and not turned to start.

Does anyone have an idea what this may be, or how to sort this out.....especially as we have rubbish weather and my foglight has stopped working?

Thanks

Without doing some fairly basic testing with a multimeter it is hard to be certain. In your position I would turn the fog lights off and then check all the fuses. Sticking my neck out here, but it sounds as though putting the foglights on has caused a short that has popped a fuse. The foglights are in a pretty vunerable position so it might be some "mechanical" damage to the wiring or it could be water ingress into the bulb housing. If you find a blown fuse, replace it and see if everything else works before trying the foglights again. If putting the foglights on pops another fuse it has to be a short in the foglight wiring or water ingress. All this salty water about at the moment will be playing hell with any exposed electrical connectors. If you do find water ingress and you can cure it, dry the affected area out and then use some WD40 to displace any residual moisture. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

thanks for the suggestions....will give it a try......I have just put the car in the garage and started the car to find the clock had gone back to 01:00 again.....

Don't know if it's something that gives a clue, but there is a beep that starts when the doors are unlocked (using key, not remote) and then when I turn the engine off. The beeps come from the drivers side under the bonnet and is quite quiet.....too dark to check out, but will check tomorrow

Thanks

Or a poor connection. Did somebody say water can get into one of the junction boxes on the bulkhead?

1. check yer Battery health

2. check the lamp circuit wi a multimeter

3 dryout all connections as said

4.wd40 et al on connections and check for earthing due to excess snow/sludge/water

A fan heater stuck into the car and under the bonnet will help dry things out - remember RAV4 4.1s deserve care and love in this dreadful weather I mean, would you leave youre wife/partner to live outside in this weather (naw ah dinna want tae know the answer- its yer problem!!)
