Seat Comfort

Is it me or are the seats in the Avensis (I have a T4) like sitting on a park bench?

They seem very hard on the back and seat. Has anyone else suffered with this and has anyone any experience of a decent set of seat covers or products that help with this sort of thing?

im feeling like ive been riding a horse all the way home from work today

We have someone on here that exchanged his new 2009 model for the previous model, I think he had the T2. I have the T4 and find them fine and comfortable. I see and feel nothing wrong with them at all

Yep, have to agree with that sentiment personally, although I think to some degree attainable 'comfort' probably depends on an individuals height/weight/preferred driving position.

Don't think seat comfort is one of Toyota's strong points though, once had a 2001 Corolla, seats in that were absolutely chronic for me.

Perhaps try one of those wedge shaped cushions that are on the market. Wife won't drive without hers.

I chose my new T4 Tourer for two reasons, 1) seat comfort 2) spec levels (have Sat Nav model with HD and camera)

Had a choice of 30 cars, having had a motorbike crash 3 years ago left me with a back complaint (and a fear of Albanian Taxi Drivers AND Liverpool) seat comfort was well up on the agenda.

Liked the Merc C class but it was cramped inside

Liked the Skoda Superb but the lease costs came out sky high as they obviously don;t hold their value

Like the Saab 9-3, best seat ever and they really know how to design a seat, but we have a 9-3 convertible for the missus and they were expensive

Loved the Avensis, had one for a day and did a run to Glasgow and back, loved how quiet the cabin was and how adjustable the seat is, the memory function is great, when the wife drives it it's great because we both get our exact positions with a press of a button.

She still can't work out the touchscreen stereo though :ffs:

Thanks for all the comments. Its interesting how there are differing views on what is comfortable and what isnt. I think the avensis has firm seats which offer very good support, but I just find them a bit hard on the back and seat.

I am experimenting with various padding at the moment and driving the missus mad - particularly after nicking the ironing board spare felt to use in my "custom" seat cover :P

I gues one mans park bench is another mans luxury.............

best regards

Rob

Geordie Mick,

How do you find the 2.0 litre diesel? I've got one on order for delivery in June (saloon T4) and am still wondering whether the 2.2 (as I have now in a 2007 model) would have been the better choice. I don't break the speed limit and usually accelerate pretty moderately, so it's more the in gear flexibility/driveability that counts.

Prior to the 2007 2.2 model, I had a 2004 2.0 litre diesel (old type iron block engine with 116hp) which had a dreadful lack of power below 1800rpm (it would really bog down if you tried to slow down at a give way sign then trickle away in second gear).

I would expect the current 2.0 litre to be just like the 2.2, as it is just a short stroke version of the same engine - so smooth and flexible almost to tickover, with just a bit less torque/power everywhere.

Any views - has the harshness above 3k rpm sorted itself out with miles?

Many Thanks.
