Rather than the normal socks and underpants I get for Christmas and birthday from my lovely lady I asked for this "boys toy" so I can check out the performance of the Aygo. Yes she said, yippee I said and the deal was done. It turns out she was a bit short of money so it's gone on my credit card but what the heck, after 17 years married I should have learned by now! :D

So it turned up and being a bit of technical kit with a CD and a 100 page manual and having to register it online to get all the features and also having to talk to the GPS satellites I thought it might be quite a hassle but in fact it has been perfect and easy to use and works well also apart from thinking North is South sometimes :D

Here it is stuck to the screen

racelogic.jpg

It's saying 1mph and NE when it was 0mph and SW so that isn't so good. However see where I am parked, it is having problems getting the satellite signal, right next to my garage and also trees right next to me, in use in a normal environment it is fine. So after setting it up in the local Tesco's carpark and it acquiring the satellites dead quick I was off and using the speed sensor to show my speed as I drove up to a flat, straight quiet road I know for doing the acceleration runs. The GPS speed showed that up to 40 mph my speedo was 2mph or so more optimistic. Not so bad, will have to see what it is like at 70.

So I get to my country road and damn and blast there is a church at the end and all these Christians are hogging my Santa Pod type drag strip with cars and walking along. Hmm.

Now the data logger does a text file and also a graph format, so here is the text file copy of my first 0-60mph run

68 seconds, is that the worst 0-60mph time ever? I got a very good start using the slippy surface to negate the MMT gearbox disadvantages, but then some Godly person appeared and I had to slow down. The Performance box doesn't reset to you get to 0mph so that was me crawling past the person and then going through a T junction and then going for it. Second run was

As well as showing you how you are doing on the LCD display and and also doing a text file of the results the Performance box also allows you to do a data file and save it to SD card to put on your PC and manipulate. Here is my graph of my runs this morning.

You can probably spot the 3 times I did the 0-60 run. The first I did not quite hit 60 even though the speedo said 60, hence the 68s as it counted to the next one. The end of the 2nd peak is 68s seconds before the start of the run before. Finally the 3rd peak is where the 10.6s was recorded. Unfortunately the ground wasn't that flat, the data logger also does your height

The big peak at the end is where I went over a bridge to get over the M25. The device also does lateral g as well so I can see how tyres improve performance.

More fun than the rev counter I added, though it is £300.
