Water Pump Replacement

Hi folks.

Our 55 plate d4d x-tr has been intermittently making a funny droning sound. We haven't been able to isolate what causes it (eg. acceleration, braking, steering...). We have been taking our cars (all makes) to a local, reputable mechanic for years now. He is pretty certain that the water pump is on it's way out. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the specialised Toyota tools to do the job. I have phoned around different dealers and received quotes between £430 to £560 for parts, labour and vat. The job involves removing, and therefore replacing, the timing belt too.

Does this sound reasonable? Would there be any point in trying to get a hold of the tools ourselves? We are in the Glasgow area.

Thanks,

Linda

Price sounds about right! Had the same job done on my car (same year and model as yours, 45k miles).

Fortunately mine was covered by warranty.

By all accounts, it’s a son of a b…ch of a job.

Good Luck

There are no special tools - tell him not to be such a wuss and get on with it. What is this noise like? We have a youtube clip of a "moaning noise" that the filter head can make;

http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...st&p=841969

That is precisely the noise!

Sounds like the filter head then.

I'll contact Parts-King and see about getting the necessary replacement.

So it's part number '23380-27121'?

Thanks so very much for the info. Hubby and I sat here listening to the YouTube recording and were all :o :o

Hmmmmm mine seems to be making that kind of noise too, I though it was a bearing type noise? but it does sound like the noise in the video,

Linda did you get the correct part number for this part?

Hi Jedi.

Rambler quoted this part number in the YouTube link.

'23380-27121'

I'm just waiting for Parts-King to get back to me.

I'll keep you informed.

Now that I know it's probably the Fuel Filter Cap and not the Water Pump that has the issue, it might be better to continue this discussion in the original Fuel Cap Filter topic?...
