I run NOTHING but 98 on in my MR2.....the odd tank of race gas. In japan they run around 100 octane so the closest to that would be best....more so if your gonna run higher boost.

Sweet....yeah we have 91, 96, and 98....we have 3 main petrol station brands 2 of which do the 98, the other only 91, and 96. The fact that you have a US spec MR2 means your ecu is probably doing ok on 91 but would benefit on higher stuff. Im sure If I ran my j-spec on 91 it really wouldn't like it.

You can get 93 in quite a lot of places in the US. 95 is also about but much rarer. Any higher I think you'll need to look for a specialist supplier which would be very expensive.

Something else you could consider which would help is to use a water injection system running on a water methanol mix. Methanol has an octane of 113 which would really help you out. :)

In the US they rate their fuel differently. They use a PON rating (Pump Octane Number) whereas in the UK we use RON rating (Research Octane NUmber).

91 PON = 95 RON

93 PON = 97 RON

95.8 PON = 100 RON

I got this here

Hope this helps.

Only if its JDM if its a US model you need to find out which type it needs!

From ae111sr's link .. UK used Ron, US uses Pon

RON  MON  PON

90  83  86.6

92  85  88.5

95  87  91

96  88  92

98  90  94

100 91.5 95.8

105 95 100

110 99 104.5

And to be honest .. I'd use the best available .. I occasionally used Super (95) in my car and it takes a few tanks of Optimax (98) for it to feel smooth again.

I tried some Cool Blue Race Fuel a couple of weeks ago. That's 106RON and had to pay £80 for 25 litres (lucky I was able to share the cost with a mate). What a difference :eek: but at that price it's for very special occasions only

Don't complain mate, we pay double that for the crap stuff. All that might change now that US has nicked Iraqs reserves ;) but I doubt it 'Tony the TAXMAN' will have his lb of flesh!

There legal in UK too,but not popular and i must admit, I can't see any fun/point to them. Just personal taste but I think them Yank custom jobs with 20" chromes, Hydraulics, graphics etc look sick (thats in the English sense of the word, not the American).

can the hydraulics be changed during driving?

Cos if they can then they'd be pretty cool, wouldnt have to go over speed bumps in first at about 1mph!!!

lol, other students h8 me. They go over at about 20mph i ntheir punto's and saxos, pug's etc,etc and i gotta crawl over em. that's the only time my m8 beat me in a friendly race. :D
