Performance Exhaust/ecu Remap

Im on my third rav its a 2008 petrol xtr. The exhaust sounds so flat I'm considering a full stainless system with sports cat.

Company that may do the work is mij in the midlands. My hope is that it will now sound like a engine and a small mpg gain would be nice. A performance improvement is not a requirement but driveability is.

On offer by the same company is a ecu upgrade, bearing in mind the engine I have what do you think?

Will either of these mods provide any improvment. Your comments please.

I've never posted before because I have had only one fault on the 3 ravs ! and this posting is just... can I improve it.

If you're thinking of going down the tuning route then you might as well look at the induction side as well. I know that my wife's 4.2 2 litre VVTi has a restrictive looking intake that could be improved upon quite easily.

If you go for improved inlet, exhaust and map then you might get 7-10% who knows? You'd be looking at around £700 for those three mods though so how much do you want it? Would a fruitier back box be enough for you instead?

I have no, or very little knowledge of tuning the petrol engine, however assuming the petrol engine uses the Denso ECU then i have it on good authority that it CANNOT be re-mapped.."chips " are available but whereas on the diesel 20-30% is realistic, the petrol versions are much less susceptible to this type of tuning, Ihave a "chip" and twin back box on my 4.3 diesel, TTE, Remus, + cobra all do back boxes for the petrol, very roughly TTE about £600, Remus about £450, + cobra about £375.. I priced a full S/S system custom made from the catalytic convertor back + again roughly £600+ As Rpaterson says above, maybe a different induction inlet might help, IMO the replacement K+N panel filter is a waste of money + i don't think anyone does a specific induction kit for this car, although i stand to be corrected, We have a very helpful Chap on here running a very modified 4.1 but if you followed his mods on your 2008 car, you could kiss your warranty good bye, It might be worth you do'ing a search in the Auris section for tuning tips as i think they are more into performance than most of us on here.. Then come back to the Rav section as we are more friendly + altogether much nicer people  Hope this helps mate  Stew
