Hi

how much of a job is it to change a clutch on the rav4, can the engine be left in or could i tilt it enough to move the gearbox out of the way. do i need to drain the gearbox fluid and disconnect the driveshafts and propshaft. are the bolts in easy access. any help, info and pictures would be very useful. im handy with spanners but i have no ramp i can change suspension parts and power steering racks on these just to let you know my experiance.

thanks

I'm not 100% familiar with these 4.1s but the clutch can be done with the engine in. Yes you have to drain the fluids and take the drive shafts out and yes the gearbox has to come right out. It is a big job but one of our lady members - Laura did it quite recently and maybe if you pm her she will give you a run down of the process.

Dennis at the Garage in Motherwell does my clutches as I'm too big to crawl under the car - even if its on a ramp!!! He changes it with engine in; a couple of mounts loosened off and the engine canted slightly....try giving him a ring to ask for any quick tips - 01698 265303 and say you were told by big Ian to call for some pointers. He's got it down to a fine art now with the racing RAV!
