Dpf Regeneration Cycle

I know my T180 2.2 DPF goes through a regeneration cycle to clean the filter automatically by spraying diesel (and oil ?) into the exhaust manifold everynow and then via the 5th injector.

Anyone ever heard this happen and anyone know a little bit more about the process that Toyota use on these engines ?

Only thing I notice the burn process from on my car is the smell. It smells like burnt brakes or clutch. Also the rpm's are a little higher than normal during the burn. But no extra smoke or anything like that.

All in all it's quite unnoticeable unlike in a V70 Volvo. I was driving behind one during last summer and couldn't see anything as there was so much smoke coming from the car that first I thought it's on fire.
