Hey guys, I've recently purchased a Toyota Aygo Special Edition Black and have noticed it's slightly more noisy then my previous cars upon start up. I've been assured its normal and that the noise and the slight vibrations is because it is a 3 cylinder engine by a Toyota dealership. Would you agree?

Cheers!

Rachael

P.s Other then this, I love the Aygo! :P

Yeah, this is totally normal- as you say due to the 3 cylinder engine! They are even more noisy when cold also.

Great cars, glad you are liking it! :D

The Aygo is quite loud yeah. But the noise is one of it's defining features.

As far as I know, since it's so cheaply made it has little to no sound proofing.

Just turn the radio UP if you don't like the engine noise.

FWIW I love the engine note this car produces :)

Admittedly the MKII is better sound insulated than the original Aygo - but I find the engine to be just the correct side of noisey/revvy.

Thanks guys!

I'm not complaining about the noise, in fact I like it! I just wanted to make sure it was normal. :P

Toyota currently have my car in so they can repair a small chip in the paint on the door. They have given me an iQ as a courtesy car. It's nasty! I can't wait until I get my Aygo back. Tomoro I hope. :D

I have no regrets in buying the Aygo!

Although how anyone can dislike the noise these little babies make is beyond me.

Hey! You can actually sound proof the Aygo. I went and bought 3 self adhesive felt sound proofing material from eBay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250625302718&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I spent the ;ast 2 weeks getting paper, and cutting out "templates" for the back boot space of the car. I ve also covered the rear wheel arches, and the quarter panels at the back.

Result? I went and tested the car on a wet rainy day,a nd have to admit you cant hear the "sssssssh" noise of the water at the rear. I can also hear my radio a lot better, and the base doent make the back rattle. Its actaully significantly quietr, and the grit that gets hurled up at the back doesnt sound like stones being pinged at the car. lol

You have to undertand how sound travels, and how to deaden it. I used Dynomat in my Peugeot when I had a sound system, and its really good for the BASS. Dynomat is however very heavy, so I chose felt. Its lighter, and it helps stop sound bouncing back all over the place in the car.

Has anyone actually removed the rar panel of the car, and looked for sound insulation. I found ONE POXY SIZED SPONGE which was stuffed at the bottom of the rear quater panel. Toyotas shameful attempt at sound insulation!

Hope this link helps how sound travels. Only thing is the felt I bought was £19.99. Now its £24.99?
