Hi all,

If I were to replace my existing headunit with an aftermarket one which had bluetooth handsfree calling built in (the better ones seem to all have this now) would it interfere with the bluetooth system in my AYGO already? Is there a way to disable the bluetooth on the headunit or would I just have to make sure it connected to the Toyota bluetooth everytime?

I would like a new unit with a USB port but all seem to have bluetooth built in, but I don't want to loose the great toyota system!

Any ideas would be great...

I'm not sure about the connections on the Toyota system but you should be able to choose which to connect to with your phone.

But you may find that the system that is built into the aftermarket radio is better than the Toyota one. My head unit allows me to import the phone book from my mobile and actually dial numbers right from the radio.

There are still PLENTY of radio's available WITHOUT bluetooth built in (thank god).

And it IS possible to use a different radio with the Toyota bluetooth system...

Changing the head unit is a simple ish task, but how does the blue tooth connect to the standard one?

I ask as I am considering changing the head unit. But don't want to mess up the auto Muting on the blue tooth when making/receiving calls.

The bluetooth is connected between the radio and the car. The wires

from the car plug into the bluetooth and the radio then plugs into that.

This way the radio and the carkit get their power when needed and the carkit

can disconnect the Speakers from the radio and feed themt the voice-signals.

The only extra connection on the OEM radio is a single wire into the Yellow mini-ISO C-block,

this is the Mute Wire and can be connected to your new radio, just snip off the yellow plug

and attach an appropriate connector to accept the wire from your new radio.

On Kenwood Stereo's the Phone Mute has been brown for at least the last 12 years,

so it probably still is ;) Other brands may have different colors for the same functions.

And even if you do NOT connect the mute wire the radio will be silent, as the Speakers

are disconnected externally. Using the wire just makes it neater and on most radio's

also pauses MP3- or CD-play (unlike the OEM radio, which keeps playing).
