Mug Guards?

Hi,

Basically, due to the snow, I've noticed that the snow from the road builds up at the back of the wheel and eventually causes issues.

I've come to the conclusion that mud flaps would stop it happening and wondered if anyone had a rough cost for all 4. Also - is fitting them hard? I can't see where to fit them at present (mainly down to the snow) - but can't imagine it's harder than putting two screws in for each mud flap.

Thanks,

M.

the fronts are easy to fit - the rears are a bit more difficult (mainly due to access & having to drill a couple of holes) ...

You should be able to download the installation instructions from techdoc.toyota-europe.com

genuine Toyota parts should be ~£40 for both sets.

I agree with the above as i have fitted them myself but ..... the mud flaps seem to gather more snow as they form a ledge for it to stick on and a smaller gap between the tyre and the wheel arch, massive improvement with dirt and mud though!

Regards Pete.

The Scandanavians have been dealing with this problem for many a long year. The build up of snow at the rear is usually due to snow being thrown from the front wheel. So if you have a close look at some Saabs and Volvos you will notice they have 3 mudflaps per side. One at each wheel and a third very short one about 2" deep under the sill about 2 feet or so infront of the rear wheel. Although you may have to get down on your knees to see it.:)

HI THERE,

Not sure what year Avensis you own, but i have a 2001 hatchback, and i fitted new mud guards to the front and rear only 2 weeks ago, was very easy to do and only took me say 20 minutes. If you buy the mud guards from your toyota dealer they come with the fittings and instructions so you cant go wrong. If you look really carefully at the inside of the rear bumper arch you should see 2 pre tiny markings where you would need to poke a hole (some people use a drill but i just used a wood screw) and then you just screw the mud guards on, theres also a bolt/screw to go underneath each guard too. As for the front the bolts/screws are alreay there as part of the arch linings so you just unbolt...hold the mud guard in place...and screw back in...and again one underneath! As to whether they make a difference...i dont know...i only bought them as an accessory to make the car look sportier since you dont get original side skirts for my model...sad i know! Hope i have been of some help! Takecare
