My Aygo passed it's second MOT but with a "advisory notice" telling me my front brakes a re slightly worn 3.5.1.

What does this mean? I had my front discs and pads replaced last year and have done just over 10K miles on them. The original brakes lasted 35k miles. Is there a possibility that the brakes were fitted incorrectly as my driving style hasn't changed so I expect same mileage from the brakes?

What on earth does the term "slightly worn" mean anyway. It is in no way a definitive term - typical numpty comment in my view. Now if they said either the pads or disk were worn close to their limits or such it would make more sense.

If in doubt get the brakes checked out. You have to remember an MOT is in no way a measure of reliabilty or condition. It just means someone has inspected the vehicle and in their opinion it complies with the terms set out by VOSA and in no way gaurantees the future safety or reliability of the vehicle.

In all honesty I place very little faith in an MOT certificate especially when it comes to buying a car.

I live in Northern Ireland where the MOT system doesn't permit advisories - either it passes or it doesn't.:)

On my last service, I was told that my brake disks were heavily corroded but the pads were fine. The garage put this corrosion down to (amongst other things) road salt and general dirt.

A new set of rotors and pads will set you back around £200 at Quick Fit but you will have the peace of mind that having a new set of anchors.

When i had my Aygo Serviced and MOT on 7th Decmeber i got advisory for pitting on my discs but not worried i dont do enough miles to merit changing them I will get them changed before the worst happeneds tho i have done 1000 miles since last August ill be changing my pads and discs at the same time makes sence to so they wear equally, on another note they failed me on a tyre that had a deep cut in it so i bought a new one total cost from VW main dealer £155 which im pleased about + they washed and vacuumed it for me :D
