NOT A LOTAHELP but I get mine tracked using the laser system...lot less hassle for the price of 2 decent bottles of whisky, so my liver benefits too!

The adjustment up back is by concentric? bolts I think. The expense was worth it.

I had new tyres last week and they gave me a print out...

Front Caster - Min 1degree 15' Max 2degree 45'

Front Camber - Min -1degree 10' Max 0degree 20'

Front Toe - Min -0degree 05' Max 0 degree 05'

Rear Camber - Min -2 degree 00' Max -0d 30'

Rear Toe - Min 0d 05' Max 0d 14'

Does that help?

Cor Bothie! Down 'ere Lagavulin is £40 a bottle so that is quite a lot really.

On a more serious note, Information re the adjustment at the rear would be helpful as I am about to buy some new tyres and I ALWAYS have the alignment checked at the same time.

Does that help?

Looks useful! Which model does this refer to as presumably they differ a bit?

access to workshop info is available online - probably in the pinned topics up top of the forum. Nothing online for the 4.1 as such apart from basic info.

And £40 for lagavulin is expensive - I tend to go for the 100 proof stuff out the cask - no I don't buy a cask at a time but would be cheaper to do so in the long run (2 months). Then cut it with a bit of blended so it doesn't boil the blood!

Hmm. So if a few of us got together to purchase a cask between us........................he dreamed :P

Thanks for that info and hopefully its for the 4.1 I am guessing its degrees and seconds. Also which rod at the rear adjusts toe or camber.

If you look at the links on the rear suspension you can work out which does what (bear in mind I haven't actually worked on a 4.1 but they are similar even on the cars). The links to the bottom of the hub are to adjust the camber and the links to the middle of the hub are to adjust the track. Toyotas are unusual in that they offer so much adjustment on the rear axle and it is achieved in a novel way. If you look at the inner swivel bolt you will see a vernier scale etched around the bracket. If you slacken the bolt and turn it the fixing is on an eccentric and by turning it you can jack the links in or out. I have attached the instructions for a 4.2 because the only info I have for 4.1s is from a pathetic Haynes manual which is as much use as a candle in a hurricane.

From this you can work out what to do. Beware that you do not slacken those bolts without marking where they are so you can always put it back or see how much you have adjusted them by.

why do you ask ? :D

On the 4.1, due to age etc, just be careful as the bolts can rust/weld themselves on.

anchorman i was asking any who knew if these 4.2 specs were also for the 4.1

just out of curiosity how many people work on their own rav4. i think the 4.1s are great to work on and i have learnt a lot.

upto now i have done

full suspension change stock to kyb

complete steering rack

ht leads

spark plugs

two engine mounts

timing belt

rear diff mount

all fluids

also been to many off road sites and only seen one other rav4 out there

towed a landrover disco 30 miles

recoved cars from the snow a few weeks back

and a few months back got it converted to lpg

what else could i ask for

out of the rav4 versions i think 4.1s are best and still going strong and popular

:D

OK I see. I would dobt very much if these specs carry from the 4.1 and would recommend you use those provided by Tillytoo.

NIce work on the RAV. I think doing things like that get you far more familiar with things and even if you do make a mistake you are not paying somebody £80 and hour + VAT to do it for you!!!
