Rav Deals

Hi Fellas, I have a rav XT-R petrol on an 08 plate. Very Very happy with it, so much so that I had not even thought about changing it.

When I got it I paid broker prices and got 3 years 0% finance. Had a call couple weeks ago from the dealer asking if all was ok and would it be ok for him to look at my oustanding finance so that he could tempt me with a new Rav

I told him I was not looking to change but he persisted, So I told him

1. I would not pay any more per month,

2. I would not take more than 3 years finance

3. Not interested in deals with baloon payments

4. Would not put any cash into the deal

5. Must be equivelant model at least.

Basicaly If I could drive mine in and drive new one out and just keep paying same payments then he would have my interest.

Quite frankly thought that was the last I would hear from him, not that it bothered me as I am happy with what I have.

I have 1 year left on the 0% finance.

Anyway the bugger phones me up today and says his managers says he feels sure he can meet my conditions so when can I take the car along to discuss it. Wont discuss details on the phone and I am thinking to myself "no way can he do this" The model in question is either petrol XT-R Auto or manual Deisel AWD.

In the end they were that sure I would be happy with the deal he said if I go along and felt it had been a wasted journey because they had not matched my requirements they would put £20 petrol in my tank and give the car a wash while I was there.

What do you guys think good deal or too good to be true?????????????????????

No not your lot..

Thing is I still owe £3800 so even at broker prices I don't see how he can do it. He says they are chasing good 2nd hand Rav's and prices are strong.

I`d go just for the £20 fuel/wash and complimentry cup of tea, However you will have to listen to their BS for a while.

I've seen this many times, if they wont discuss on the phone dont waste your time, going down there makes no difference to a potential deal!

I can see it now, we can put you in a Urban Cruiser 1.3 for only £50 a month more, its like a RAV4 there isnt much difference  ;)

can't belive any Rav salesman worth his salt making that ref.

I do agree about the on phone thing though, I think they relying on getting me through the doors and hoping I'll be hooked. They are wrong though as I love my Rav and if I wait till sept I will gain 2 plate reg's.

I will change eventually and if I go and they pi** me off they will not get a look in at Sept, something his boss will be informed of.

A similar thing happened to my dad around 3 months ago when his 0% was 9 months to go on a mazda 3 .

They promised him the best deal ever over the phone , he said the same as you roughly that he was very happy with his and the deal would have to be a great one for him to even think about changing . They said his payments would not change much lol

When he went to the garage , the price was no where near what they said on the phone . So he walked ........

Just thought I would update you guys as I have been to see Mr T today.

First off, the guy who has been phoning me at home and has led all this failed to keep his appointment with me and left an uninformed replacement to meet me.

After 5 mins updating the guy about Matt's promises and my stipulations, he disapears for a while before coming back and proudly saying yes we can get you in that new Rav for "almost" the same payment.

"Almost I say"

"yes Ken only £3 a month more"

"oh! thats ok, still 36 months" I say

"Er well actualy it's 40 months"

"and is that the petrol auto or diesel manual"

"Erm well...........................(long pause) it's the 2WD would that be ok.

So far he has wiped out 3 of my conditions

After a blunt NO from me he promises to sort something out.

10 mins later he's back with a whole list of figures that he explains in detail. What's there is list price for the car plus full list price for options and my PX offer of £13800. not a sign of a discount or deal anywhere just a monthly payment of £354 per month and then he turns the page and shows me option 2 with a monthly payment of £290. "oh" he says "the benefit of this is we tell you now that your car will be worth £9000 in three years"

"you mean I will still owe £9000 at the end of the deal" I said. "well yeh but it will be worth more" he replied. Strike 4

At this point I questioned what happened to the deals being promised and he asked what I was looking for in terms of a discount. After putting it on the line for him he took a sharp breath and disapeared for a while before returning and saying "well Mr Vickers lets go put some petrol in that Rav of yours shall we"

None of this suprises me but the Guy who has been chasing me on the phone has been nothing short of a blatent liar, all in an attempt to get me in the showroom in the hope the urge to buy would take over. The guy I saw was nice enough and seemed embarrassed at the position he was in. I am in two minds at the moment, Should I write to Toyota Customer Services about these sales tactics or would I be wasting my time????

Kingo I hope your guys don't do business like this.

On a final note the New Rav is stunning and I have now caught the bug but will look to March or September and another dealer or broker

haha

since then, its been well modified and loads faster - but I can give doses of valium before a trail run.... only if you desist from pies for 24 hours - they take a long time to scrape off the lining!

and Vickk

until you try a real RAV, you'll never know what to compare against - I might be down your way to visit family so will let you know !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't want to wrongly accuse, but is this dealer part of a large group around Cheshire/Manchester? if not they use very similar tactics, which are very insulting to your intelligence, I am thinking of applying for a job, because with a bit of honesty + sincerity and treating people like grown ups i feel sure they would sell a lot more cars.. Stew

I was thinking exactly the same LH.

They actualy overlook Stoke Citys ground and prior to this all dealings have been very good.

So do I

There is one thing I would say tho, We always get people in the showroom to do deals, you cannot possibly strike up a deal, value a P/EX and everything else that goes into buying a car just with a phone conversation. We don't give any old bull just to get you in, we wont discuss firm prices either until we know all the facts

Kingo

yes Kingo I agree with what you say.

Anyway I have a quick update on the tale. On Sat night I was feeling a bit decieved and miffed (even though I knew the promises were too good) I emailed the sales guy who had made all the promises and told him politley what I thought. I only emailed him and copied no one else.

Today I had a phone call from the sales manager who had read my email. Don't know how or why she read it and she skirted around that question. Anyway she was full of apologies over his "sales methods" and said she will look at the deal herself. She said that she may not be able to do the deal I wanted but as a way of saying sorry she said she had put a cheque in the post for £100.

Stunned and suprised
