No Sign Of A Hatchback Then?

My last 2 Avensis have been hatches but now I come to look at the new generation and there is no such option. It's either a saloon or an estate car with a posh name. The saloon has a nice big boot but loading it must be like doing keyhole surgery with a tiny aperture like that. I'm not a rep or a plasterer and I don't have a huge brood of kids to carry so an estate is a waste of space and money to me.

It's a shame because I actually like the car, there are worthwhile improvements over my 07 model but Toyota must be losing out on a big market here by not providing a true 5 door option. People like me who like the big door access for the occasional large item and suitcase will just have to look elsewhere I guess. :(

The thought had occurred. :D

But the point still stands. The hatch outsold the saloons on the old model so why has Mr Toyota been so daft?

A conservative marketing stratagy. The saloon, estate combination is considered, by some  , more upmarket.

Anyway, I would recommend having a look at the Prius if you need a hatchback, it certainly suit's my needs and the needs of my family. :D

Good luck

I too feel that the failure to produce a hatchback is daft. Had there been a hatchback option I would have bought it but however I am more than happy with the tourer/estate

I am with Fujisan on this.... if you really want a hatchback then go for the Prius  My wife has one and it is a really good car and I feel the newest generation model a better option given that it now has a 1800cc engine.

Good luck with whatever you choose :)

Mr T is following his friend Mr H with their Accord strategy, if you recall that used to have a 5dr option :)

I think it is to do with not many hatchs were sold europe wide. the hatch back is more of a uk car type. Or it is when it comes to larger cars like the avensis. So im gussing for the small sales it generates it was decided to drop it and save on the design and tooling costs. If you really want a hatch there is always the auris and prius that are hatch and if you want an avensis and to carry bigger stuffs you'll get the tourer (aka estate).

For me the biggest shame about the new avensis tourer is it doesnt have built in roof rails for carring stuff. I carry stuff on the roof regualry and its great having roof rails makes putting on roof racks so much quicker and easier.

there is mounting points for a Roof Rack built in you can use those. roof rails were deleted to aid fuel economy.

there is certainly no intention to make a 5dr hatch in this model.
