My Engine Number/model?

Hi guys,

After having read numerous feeds in regards to oil consumption...im very disturbed. I purchased my 1.8 vvti hatchback 2001 51 SR two months back. Does anyone know my engine model? (e.g 1zz fe) And if its known to drink oil or have any oil consumption issues? On the day i purchased it, i did check the oil, it was very black and low, but he topped it up and i drove home 60miles back and everything was fine...although the engine management light did come on...i panicked...had it reset a few days later...then did a full service...and now i check the oil level every weekend and eveything seems fine...oil is still clean and golden and nearly to the top mark on the dipstick! But then you hear of these cars loosing oil quickly and the engine dies with no warning...its damn scary! Please help.

Unless you’re doing 1,000+ miles a week then a weekly check should keep you right, it won’t just all instantly disappear.

Just keep an eye on it, for all you know it could have had an engine change, might be worth ringing your local dealer and ask them to check the Reg Number against the Toyota system.

Yeah, good point! How do I find out what engine type mine is? I am on a 2004 1.8 Auto T3-X. Is it stamped somewhere under the bonnet or on the engine or something?!

It's stated in the user manual, in the end where technical data is listed.

But you have the same 1ZZ-FE engine because it's 1.8 2001 or never. Now with the neves Avensis T27 the 1.8 engine code isdifferent.
