Hi, I have a oil burning 1.8 vvti, I have been down to my local TT dealer (Pentagon Doncaster) to try for a replacement short engine. But was told that due to it's age (Jan 2002) there was no way TT would consider exchanging the block. I tried most thing to convince them it was a good idea but unfortunately the answer was still no.

My question is this does anyone of a good argument I can put to them, I've done the full TT service history bit, the recognised brand, future customer, but nothing worked. So now I'm clutching a straws, any suggestions will be very welcome.

While I'm on, can someone help with the long term effects of putting all this oil into the engine, will it damage the cat for example, will it effect the emissions for it's MOT, is there any other parts on the engine that will suffer because of the excessive amount of oil passing through it.

A lot to think about any advise would be very welcome.

As far as i'm aware the extended replacement programme only lasted for car's up to 7 years old, I suppose at 8+ years Toyota consider the vehicle to obsolete and the cost of parts to be in excess of the cars value.

Best thing is be a bit sneaky and sell it and get something else before it get's any worse, as the repairs will probably cost more than the car's worth.

Hi there, yes the cat can be damaged by excessive oil burning and can effect the emissions test for the MOT. The cylinder head and the exhaust system in general will eventually get coked up, the piston rings are already knackered. All of the above really depends just how much oil is being burned but maybe Toyota should allow you a good trade in price against another car as a gesture of good will if they won't repair the engine, by the way what mileage is on the car?

Pete.

Thanks for the replies, the car is just coming up to 80,000 miles, suggesting to sell it for something else is all well and good but I've only just bought the !Removed! thing. Paid probably over the odd's for what is a very tidy and immaculate looking vehicle, (I know now why they sold it) I cannot consider swapping it for something else, I'll just have to tough it out for a couple of years and hope nothing major goes wrong. I travel about 100 miles a week so that's about 5000 a year so lets see how we get on. It's going in for a service in two weeks (not to TT) I'll see what the fitter has to say. (like I said to the mother-in-law in bed this morning.... You just never can tell)
