hi everyone

be gentle with me its my first post , :

i have just bought a 1999 avensis with the 7a engine ,theres seems to be a problem i think with the temp gauge if i drive for say 15 miles the temp gauge hardly moves the heater blows nice warm air all ok ,i feel the top hose nice and hot, feel the bottom one its cold ,if i rev the engine say to 2/3000 rpms for say 5 mins the thermostat opens and the bottom hose gets hot but the temp gauge still low .if i keep reving the engine the cooling fans then cut in .if i then drive back home the bottom hose then goes cold again .i think everything seems all ok apart from the low gauge .i have taken the thermostate out and checked it out and all good i have gone through previous threads and there are a few problems with the stats but have checked mine

any info would be great is there anything to worry about ??? is this a hot running engine ??engine performance great, starts up on the button ,full sevice history

many thanks jason

Possibly a duff or lazy coolant temp sensor or thermostat.

When testing the thermostat did you measure its opening and closing temperatures with a thermometer and if so what readings did you get??:)

Also check the temp sensor electrical connector for corrosion.

Hi Jason

I have the same engine in my car and had the similar problem last year.

New thermostat fixed it.
