Oil - Dumb Question

Hi All

Dumb Q for most I guess

How many different major oil places (cant think of a better word!!!) are there on the rav?

Engine, gearbox, diff?

And what is the reccommend oil for each.

Anyone approached toyota to have these changed, or is that what they would call a service and ask for lots of cash?

Thanks

Hello,

As I can see there aren't any dumb questions, u just don't know .

I only replace the engine oil on mine, as if the rav is anything like my last car , replacing the clutch lube is sooooo painful it's not worth it . got my Rav its 30,000K service, All this was replaced for 300 euro, with all filters (Air, cabin, fuel replaced, and new wipers all round). Thats in Rip off ireland

Engine oils is easy to replace there is a link on how to do it on this site, the rest I'd leave with a Garage

Well, I would anyway

OK Nick.

Its time I supplied your photos!

4.2 VVTi

Engine oil and filter is pinned. It takes 4.2 litres of 5W/30 semi synthetic or similar (some use 10W/40).

Gear oil is drained at the bottom of the box (you can see it at the back);

......and filled at the front of the box with 3.4 litres of 75W/90 - you need a 24mm spanner!

The transfer box is drained here;

and filled with 0.9 litres of 90s

IMG_1101-1.jpg

........and that is the most awkward part of the whole service!!!

The rear axle is drained here;

and filled here with 0.9 litres of 90s or 80W/90

These items are covered on a big service but changing plugs, air filter, brake fluid or cabin filter are not. I believe the cost is in the £250 ball park but doing it yourself is much less and for the same price you could easily do the other items.

Here is the pdf with all the specs. I think it is best to print it and laminate it back to back then you can keep it with you while you do the service.
