I just bought a 1986 mr2 na. the motor needs to be rebuilt but before i do so i want to see what all my options are. I have been told that a few motors would fit in (with money and time) such as the 3sgte, the 5sfe and possibly the 1mzfe. I kind of like the idea about the 1mzfe because i like the trd supercharger. But on the other hand more horsepower could be achieved from the 3sgte with a upgraded turbo kit. let me know what you guys think. What would be most cost effective? What would be more realistic and howm much work would be involved? Its just a project car so it could sit for a little while. thanks for all your help.

The most common would obviously be the 3sgte.....Iv'e seen a 3rd Gen 3sgte done and DAMN can it move!! Also seen a 4g63 out of a VR4 galant done too. I THINK a 4agze from the Levins/Truenos might be the go too. I can probably put you in touch with the guy I know with the 3rd gen if you want some info from him.

erm most common is probably the supercharged 4a-gze as the aw11 was available woith an 4a-gze in japan anyway, the 3s-gte does fit with a bit of work as was displayed at JAE last year but would cost a lot more to do.....

4A-GZE was also available in AW11 in the US for a couple of years. You might want to check out the MR2 Owners Club Message Board - there's lots of useful info to be had there.

go for the 4a-gze for cost effectiveness, but for pure power the rev3 3SG-TE!

Agreed...but ditch the supercharger on the 4agze + chuck on a turbo :)
