Is This Normal?

Just noticed that when I first start driving the engine temperature gauge creeps up to where it should be, but then drops right back down again to nothing after not very long.

Is this normal?

NO It should come up to about the half way point and stay there. First point of check should be your thermostat.

Do you wait for your engine to reach running temp before turning your heater on?

A way of checking that your heater is working is by letting the car reach temp, then turning the heater on full (from cold). The temp guage will drop right down and then slowly climb again.

If this is what's happening, then leave your heater turned on when starting the car up in the morning and the temp guage should act normal.
