2010 Yaris Announced

Well, there was hope that there would be a few more models like the SR coming back for 2010, but it doesn't look like it.

I saw an ad in the paper for the 2010 Yaris on Weds and sure enough, there's now news and specs on the Toyota web site.

Looks like there's just the T2 and TR models still.

T2 looks unchanged. All the changes I can spot are on the TR.

The biggest change is that the TR now has a full set of airbags again and the full 5-Star NCAP safety rating that it lost when they were dropped in the mid-2009 revision.

It keeps the alloy wheels, gains a full set of airbags, an "analogue" rev counter & front fog lights.

That looks like the sum total of the changes, apart from the fact that the exterior door handles are now "matt silver" on all colours - not sure if I think that's an improvement or not.....

Its all smoke and mirrors!

The new 2010 Yaris is the same as the new 2009 Yaris was at the beginning of 2009!

When the Yaris had a mid life face lift last year it had new front and rear bumpers with the protective plastic moldings, revised darkened headlights (on the SR) and tail lamps and a narrower front grille. New upholstery and trim options and a new 1.33 engine with 6 speed box.

Six months later the SR was dropped, the T-Spirit not long after, airbags fog lights etc were also dropped as standard.

Now in 2010, the all new Yaris has all these items back! The only difference I can see is different patterned upholstery (no big deal) silver coloured door handles (optional) different alloys (wow) and now analogue dials on the TR.

All for £2000.00 more

My new 2008 SR with 16" alloys, lowered suspension, built in sat nav, built in bluetooth phone kit, all the airbags, front fog lights and a rear spoiler was the best £10k I have spent on a car.

A 1.3 TR 5-door with metallic paint is just £98 short of £13,000 now - and the SR had more than £2000 extra equipment that's missing off the TR....

I think a snow roof may be more useful!!!!

To be serious I now prefer a car not to have a sunroof or, if it has one, I prefer to have a sliding cover to keep out the bright light shining down on me. Sun from overhead causes problems with my glasses and produces eye strain. With a sun roof om sunny days I drive in a hat.
