1979 4x4 Restoration

The vehicle is OEM 20r carbuerated with 4-speed manual and transfer case. I want to replace the 20 r with a 22r carbuerated and keep the 4 speed manual transmission and transfer case. Two items come to mind:

1) I think the 1980 4x4 was manufactured with a 22r carbuerated with 4-speed manual and transfer case. I have not been able to confirm this. Is there anyone in this forum who might know more about this? And where I can get a 22r if this exist?

2) Will a 22r engine bolt direct to the original 4-speed manual and transfer case? If there is compatability, does anyone have experiences with this?
