Avensis Verso Alarm Problem

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

Last night the alarm on my wife's Verso kept sounding roughly every 2 hours. At about 2am, I was outside reading the manual, and found the option to disable the 'radar' sensors by pressing the internal power lock button on and off 3 times (hoping this was the issue), however it did not resolve the issue and it kept sounding throughout the night.

Is there anyway to completely diable the alarm - it appears not from the manual?

Also any ideas as to what to try, where to look for the problem? I don't think the neighbours will be happy if it keeps going off again tonight.

Thanks,

Tim.

Yesterday evening I checked all the door and boot switches (all worked ok), strangely couldn't find one on the bonnet though - should there be one?

Main Battery voltage was 12.7V (which is good) and we don't have any issues starting the car. I tried to locate the alarm/siren unit, but didn't have any joy. What I don't understand is why it is not possible to disable the alarm (as it is on most other cars) ? There is no seperate fuse, and even locking the car without using the remote fob still seems to engage the alarm.

Kept our fingers crossed but it triggered again last night every 2 hrs.

Tonight I will try disconnecting the Battery, I know the alarm probably has its own backup Battery, but hopefully it will still result in a peaceful night.

Any help, suggestions would be appreciated ?

Hi

Not sure if you are still having problems, but had a similar situation on our Corolla Verso.

Our alarm would activate within 5-10mins of setting.

I believe the problem with ours, was the microswitch on the bonnet catch.

This is very hard to see, and is buried under the springs that operate the catch on the slam panel.

It can only be accessed from inside the engine compartment (for obvious reasons) and you'll probably

need a torch to find it the first time.

I did no more than spray the microswitch with electrical contanct cleaner as it was pretty gunged up.

So far (2 months) all has been ok.

I can only assume that it was sticking in the open position when the bonnet was closed, thus causing a false alarm.

Not sure if the Avensis has the same set up, but thought it worth mentioning just incase.

I did take ours into toyota as it is under warranty, but they could find nothing and just ended up spraying all the contacts again.

Accoring to the manual, the alarm is meant to store the last trigger condition, but they could not find any codes

stored. ?? might be worth tring as a last resort thought.

Anyway, as i said, not sure how different the Avensis is, but hopefully the above might be of some use.

All the best
