Toyota Company Recall

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi there, i have Toyota Aygo Blue "59 plate" delivered on 09/09/09. I faced a problem where the car mat gets struck into the accelerator while driving. I managed to pull the mat back and thought it was only with my car due to large mats.

I think I might get a letter from Toyota company about the clutch problem which is going on. Do you think my car will continue to have its market value because of this problem. Did any one else had this problem.

Please give your valuable comments ? thx

I know there is an issue with these cars from Toyota, but I think everyone is getting a little paranoid about the subject given all the posts that have popped up on here, no offence ment.

I'd have thought, seeing as your Aygo is a Blue, it would have had the 'Blue' floor mats? If not, your mats could be too big, therefore might encroach on space around the accelerator. Secondly, the problem Toyota are recalling cars for is not the clutch - it's the accelerator. If your Aygo is manual, it is NOT affected.

I wouldn't think the value of our cars will be affected too much - anyone who gets put off buying a Toyota because of this problem is probably slightly narrow-minded, and the manual Aygo isn't affected anyway, something which isn't being particularly well highlighted in the news that seems to keep on coming over at the BBC.

With regards to the mats, I've got Aygo mats and they don't seem to encroach near the accelerator... could be your mats after all? Hope this helps. And you'll only get a recall notice if your Aygo is a MMT. :D

I am guessing your car is an MMT?

Which clutch problem is this? What is yours not doing?

Toyota will say that you need to use their own mats which attach to a clip in the footwell to stop it slipping. If it still is slipping, might be worth checking its installed as Toyota would recommend.

Personally I think Toyota have handled this quite badly and those working in PR for the company and got a up hill mountain to climb to get through this storm. Not only has it been leaked that Toyota knew about this problem since October 2009 (earlier if you account for the mod which made the pedal feel less stiff when driving), but also the fact there is another recall regarding carpet mats covering the pedals in the US. If that was not bad enough there are also reports there were issues reported about the Prius having a delay of 1 - 2 seconds before braking effectively when the pedal was depressed by the driver on a bumpy road surface! :o

A shame really as Toyota despite all the reports, do make good cars (ok some with problems but what car is without any of them), and those new or those who do not have an affinity to the brand will simply go elsewhere and the reputation of good quality, reliable if boring looking cars will dissapear. Just look at Mercedes over the last 15 years if you do not believe me. People will always suspect a merc to have iffy build quality but sold at a premium and they are only now getting over this, or trying to by saying they are now building cars like they used to...i.e bullet proof.

Let me just say I am not a die-hard-Toyota fan. We do however have an Aygo in the Family and a Lexus.

This particular recall should be seen in context. Context of the amount of vehicles Toyota has produced in the last decade and the number of recalls affecting their model ranges. Their record is still very good and the cars they make otherwise reliable.

This is a glitch; nothing more than that and they are busting a gut to get it resolved...and full credit to them.

Despite the fact that my car was one of a few with this problem, it hasn't put me off Toyota. It may well put me off buying another MMT and prompt me to get a manual licence at some point, but I still want to upgrade to a Yaris one day. Problems can happen to any car manufacturer and I feel content that the dealers were good to me. My experience of a Pug garage was horrendous and from that alone has made me stick with the brand. My problem was scary but I think looking back, probably not as scary as if the bonnet flew up and hit the windscreen, as in the case of some Renault Clios. That would have shaken me to the core as I am normally a jumpy perosn.

With all this media attention, I feel Toyota may well go the extra mile to make their cars safe whilst the others can quietly snigger that they passed under the media radar.

No you won't...

Wrong pedal and use the proper mats! ;)

The version of the semi automatic gearbox in the Aygo is inferior to the Freetronic one I had in my old Yaris 7 years ago. That was fool proof, the MMT sometimes becomes the fool as it tries to work out what to do. It's also a bit overly motherly at times.
