Yaris Engine Problem

My daughter just phoned me to say she has a problem with her Yaris V reg (1999) when she tries to pull off. Basically it barely pulls away from start; she says it’s like trying to pull away in 4th gear. Also she says it makes an unusual lumpy type sound. She says it sounds okay once it’s on the go. Any help appreciated before she takes it to the garage.

Thanks

Is the Yaris, = Petrol 1.0 or 1.3? / Diesel ?/ If Petrol I would suggest =

1. Check Spark Plugs, (3 cyl only firing on 2 / 4 cyl only firing on 3)

2. Blocked Air Filter ?

3. Dirty "Maf" Censor ?

4. Add a Good Quality "Fuel Injector Cleaner" to your Petrol Tank

These 4 manual visual checks would be a good starting point before you would require OBD2 Analysis (Idle Control Censor, Blocked Injector. etc)
