Avensis 2005 Immobilised

Hi,

I have a November 2005 petrol Avensis. I had to mothball it for 8 months. I disconnected the Battery. The charged Battery turns the starter motor but it won't fire. The indicator lights come on permanently when I reconnect the Battery.

I have tried what it says in the handbook to no effect. I have read all the posts on this sort of thing but none seem quite what I need.

If I have to have it towed in to a dealer it is going to costs me £xx's and the local dealer is not giving me waves of confidence about fixing this (Cheltenham, Glos, UK)

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

1st check fuses

2nd check earths

3rd close doors and lock with fob..

come back with results.

Thanks for looking at this. Sorry for the delay: I don't get much time at home.

I found two dead fuses in the box on the passenger side of the engine compartment, one 15A and one 10A. I replaced these. It made no difference. Wiring the Battery activates all four indicators, on permanently, and the fob does nothing at all. The light comes on the fob so the fob Battery seems to be fine. Basically, I have one dead car that only responds to mechanical locking.

regards,

fauvel

which two fuses were dead ?

and where have checked the fuses ?

so let me get this straight,

You put plug the Battery into the car, and all 4 main indicators stay on ?

Whilst you have the Battery on, and put the hazards on what does it do ?

does the central locking work ?

do all of the lights work ?

report back, I wonder if the ecu has developed a fault.

Thanks again. I got the AA to the car today and they fixed the problem. Don't laugh (okay, laugh away...) I had charged the Battery with a negative polarity and it was reading minus 12 volts, which had blown a lot more fuses than I thought and gave the computers a real headache. It cost me a new Battery but the AA did a great job, to be fair. Sorry to waste the time of you good car people but each to his own area of expertise (and matters mechanical are not mine!)
