Hi all...

Has anyone considered/got any advice on removing their air conditioning unit to save some weight?!

I know the difference in weight won't be as effective as fitting lightweight race seats ect. but every little helps :)

I would guess in the middle of summer in the heat of the day, you would give up that weight saving over having the air/con on at full speed !

Firstly you would need to get rid of the compressor - this would involve modifying the auxiliary belt drive system. Then remove all its plumbing, the condensor, the evaporator and then modifying the heater control system. Quite expensive and time consuming work for very little gain on a bog standard road car.

But on a hot day you could always strap a few cool-packs to your nether regions.:)

Not sure why you would want to do that? Surely it would be better for you to sell the car and get one w/o A/C?

Hmm It does sound like a lot of work... maybe something I'll save for another time! I was only considering it as a weight saving option as I am modifying my aygo so not just my bog standard road car :P

The cool - packs idea sounds like it would work tho! Who needs air conditioning when you can wind down your windows and listen to one hell of an exhaust note?! (I have an aftermarket exhaust btw lol)

Cheers for the info tho mate :)
