No updates on the Carina as been busy getting my ST205 ready to get back on the road, but soon more to follow.

Been toying with the idea of welding a 5mm thick 3" in length steel plate to the std anti roll bar on both ends.

Why??

Drill a hole 2.5" further in and it will work just like the Whiteline adjustable antiroll bars. Similar idea to this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mitsubishi-EVO-Rear-adjustable-anti-roll-bar-PERRIN-25_W0QQitemZ160405877739QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2558ef73eb

Finally completed my downpipe. 3" to 2.5" so as not to get the dredded boost creep, what the CT turbos suffer from.

Soon to start construction of 2.5" exhaust system, and as the car is 'K' reg, will not need a cat.

Lowering springs to be fitted this weekend B)

Posted

Lowering springs fitted and car feels soo much better and steering is soo much more sharper in feel.

Posted

The springs have totaly transformed the way the car feels and handles on the road. Very little body roll, car remains flat under hard braking and acceleration. Also as the rear springs are a little stiffer than th front, it causes the front tyres to dig into the road and understeer under hard conering is gone. Feels more like a little hot hatch.

Modified the front grill today. Chopped up all the boring slats and fitted a sporty mesh grill in.

Will try and get a pic as words just don't do it justice.

Havn't been on for ages, trying to divide my time between my ST202 convertible - ST205 engine and hood motor rebuild.

Today I detangoed my front corner indicator lights, and in the process I slightly melted the O/S one. The N/S one is perfect.

Will put up pictures over the weekend.

Been nearly a month, not done anything to the Carina.

That all changed today.

Right hand side has lost its poxy drum brake and its replaced with a disc & caliper from a ST202 - direct bolt on. Fills the 16" wheel nicely. Caliper bled, but have to connect the handbrake cable. Have to drop the exhaust as the handbrake cables are connected to the centre of the car behind a heatsheild.

Left hand side tomorrow.

Will also get some pictures.

That rear disc conversion, your just removing the standard Carina drum and bolting on Celica discs and calipers yeah?

What model Carina is it,2.0Gli yeah?

Ouch... bet you didn't want to do that?

I once painted my cam covers in high temperature paint, I put them in the oven to bake off and forgot to clean them of oil. The oil burnt off and left the kitchen in a carcinogenic haze of blue smoke.....:laughing:

Bet your food tasted bette though - lol

All done now.

Both rears are ST202 braked - they are the same as the std Carina discs, 269mm.

Handbrake adjusted and just as sharp as it was with the huge drums. Gonna let the pads bed in properly before givin it some to see how it brakes at speed.

Carina GTI front discs - 273mm

Carina GLI - 255mm

Carina rear discs - 269mm

Celica ST202 front discs - 275mm

rear - 269mm

today i have finish swaping rear disk break from celica st202. jeff do you have problem with conecting handbreak line?? i replace that center line (from celica) with is shorter and cut some spring coli from end of the bouth cabel. did you instal turbo ??

Posted

Hi Juris, I used everything from the Celica ST202.

The axle with the ABS wheel ios direct fit, so no problems there. The handbrake cables are the same length. The clips to hold the handbrake to chassis are different, so just use the Carina clips.

Now interesting part is attaching handbrake cables to car just where the handbrake lever is tricky as the attaching way is different. But I got a plan, and I know it will work. When I get it done, I will take some pictures. Right now - no handbrake, but on plus side, car is very stable on hard braking at speed.
