Fitting Toyota's Roof Bars To A Gen 3 Prius

Has anyone fitted a set of Toyota's roof bars to a Gen 3 Prius yet?

I ordered a set (they are model specific) and they were ready when I collected the car but I have not been able to fit them yet.

The kit includes a 5mm rubber block with which you have to check the gap where each of the four brackets fit between the door

and the roof. If it is less than 5mm then the doors have to be lowered (by a Toyota service Dept).

Two of my doors will have to be lowered - we are talking about only say 0.5mm or 1mm approx.

Of course as the bars came with the car, the dealer should have checked this before they delivered the new car but

if I was the first with roof bars, how where they to know.? A brief chat with my local service dept. showed that the subject was a new one for them!.

By the way I don't think you can have the bars with a solar roof.

Anyone had doors lowered?

The only time I have seen a Gen3 with roof bars was in the showroom last September (plus a wonderful mountain bike :drool: standing tall, attached to the bars).

But I have to say I don't like the idea of anybody messing about with the door alignment  :o

Are you sure there is not another way around the problem, maybe a bit of packing under the bars to lift them up the 1mm required.

I quite agree. I am not keen on the idea of the doors being adjusted.

However the Toyota roof bar instructions do specify this action and it is a question of getting a gap at least 5mm wide

and not packing it up to get just 5mm.

Maybe as I am talking about such a small amount (0.5 to 1mm), I will try the bars anyway.
