Hi

Because I’m new on this forum I will try to explain my situation.

I have bought a 2008 Avensis 2.0 D4d 126Pk.

This car has had on fire in the interior heater and this has damaged the dash and wiring harnesses.

Together with my father we have accepted the challenge to get the car alive again.

Meanwhile we have replaced the damaged dash components and wiring harnesses.

The car works for the biggest part fine and the engine delivers normal power (no error codes from engine ECU)

However there are still some point we weren't able to figure out jet.

The ABS, TRC and VSC light are on.

The brake has been refilled with standaard brake fluid and bleed.

The brakes work fine, but the ABS-systeem does not seem to work.

We have checked the system on error codes by connecting pin 4 and 13.

The result was that everything is OK (ABS light 0,25sec ON/0,25sec OFF)

Is there anyone who recognize these symptoms and what the cause of the problem could be?

Ideas are of course welcome!

This maybe also important to know:

- cruise control doesn't work (when pin 4 and 13 are connected the indicator light does not blink or light up, I thought it should)

- automatic wipers do not work (works like a manual now) > PROBERLY BROKEN RAIN/LIGHT SENSOR

- automatic light do not work (works on manual) > PROBERLY BROKEN RAIN/LIGHT SENSOR

The rest of the car work as it should till the last lightbulp.

you can not code read the new avensis via the MIL.

You need a code reader,

1- get codes read with the correct type of code reader.

then come back.

Hi cmia,

I have a ELM 323 diagnose system which give me the ability to read engine codes and parameters.

According to the work shopmanual the ABS system can by checked by connencting pin 4 and 13 of the EBD connector.

The frequence of the blinking ABS light on the dash indicates the code.

The code I saw was 0,25sec ON/ 0,25sec OFF, which indicates the system should be OK.

Is this method according to the workshopmanual not right?

Well if the system is reading ok.

Ie no codes

Can you tell me is ur abs working?

It could be an error was detected at somepoint, but hasn't cleared and needs manual clerance.

Have you tried to clear the abs ecu?

I would reciommend u also check all the speed sensors and abs sensors under the car. Make sure you have the Battery unplugged when unplugging the connectors.

Hi again,

When braking hard the wheels lock, when accelarating hard the wheels spin

Not working well right

I wasn't able to clear the ABS-ecu manualy. (connecting pin 13 and 4 > brake 8 times or more within 5 sec)

I did the sensor check (connecting pin 12 and 4 > ABS light blinks > drive straight ahead @ 45 km/h > ABS light goes out.

This indicates, according to the workshopmanual that speedsensors are OK.

Tomorrow I will test the sensors manualy by messuring resistants.

Do you know which value the sensors should be?

Hi,

I thought about the brake lightbulb error and questioned myself:

Because my symptoms are the same on my case does the error need to be areased by Mr.T?

Hi mate, aslong as you have checked everything, bulbs, abs, connectors and the loom

The code will need to be cleared.

The standard code reader won't do it. It will need mr t or a specilist to clear the code from the abs eccu.

Make sure before u clear it have it read and write it down.

Once yoy have cleared the code abs and trc should start to work correctly

you mave have to reset the steering zero point clibration if the column has been off this is done by holding the vsc buton and pressing the brake pedal off and on quite fast. i think that was how it was done, not done one for a while.

The rest of the care work as it should till the last lightbulp.

Hi guys,

Had a some time today to spend on the car and got some progress.

First of all because the ABS-system was suchs a mess and I needed something to start from, I took a change a got myself a other ABS-modul from the wreakyard.

I installed the new modul, bleed the system and started the car.

Again the same symphons as befor: TRC, VSC and ABS light on, on the dash.

Then I checked for DTC-codes and got the following results:

-C1203/59 ECM communication circuit malfunction

-C1288/88 Malfunction in ECM version

Used the workshop manual to work solve these errors.

C1203: Checked the harness between ECM and Skid control ECU > OK

Checked the MIL comes on when ignition switch in turned ON and egine not running> OK

Solution: Replace ABS & Traction Actuator Assy/ ABS-modul

C1288: Perform steering angle sensor zero point calibration

Did that but I am not certain if its OK

Solution according manual when calibration is OK and harness is OK > Replace ABS & Traction Acutuator Assy.

Because I have got this module from a wreak car I'm not totally sure it work but lets assume for a moment is does work.

How can I check the zero point calibration is OK?

Can C1288 cause C1203?

Any suggestion is welcom!

PS: The Auto headlight and Auto wipers work after changing the rainsensor.
