Hi,

I have just purchased my Avensis from my local Toyota dealer. I got a 12month warrenty with it but I have a few things I would like to get answers to after reading the problems with oil consumption on here with this engine.

Firstly is my engine still covered under the cars warrenty from new, and for how long for? As i say its 03 reg and its got 52k on the clock?

Secondly how wide spread is this problem? Does it affect a high/medium/small proportion of this particular model? Obviously after reading the issues with oil consumption I will keep a close eye on it.

Thirdly I don't really understand what causes the problem. I have read on here the problem is down to oil pump/seals. I have read elsewhere its a bore liner problem and/or slightly too small pistons/rings used?

So basically what do Toyota do to solve the problem if it occurs? Is there anything other than monitoring consumption i can do, regular oil change/engine flush etc and at what point will I find myself out of warrenty?

Appreciate your comments.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

As I understand the situation, the car is covered for 112,000 miles,or 7 years, from the date of registration.

It helps if it has full Toyota history, and they check your oil consumption over a period of time to see if it is excessive.

If it is excessive, over 1litre per 1000 miles, they replace with a short engine block.

All this is at Mr T's discretion of course!

I believe from what I see here, and other forums, that it is a small proportion of cars sold.

Cheers....Phil.

hello mate

this issue is well know for all the world. the main problem is that the thermal design of this engine has been wrongly done inittialy resulting overheating of each piston. Check with my etries on this subject or similar and you'll find your problem. It seemed you ve a chance to change short motor thanks to the car was purchased from the dealership that gives one year warranty for sold product (in cacse it is out of 7 years warranty). I deem this will help.Good luck/Igor
