Help! There Is A Bit

Noticed a strange rattle on my MR2 recently when she is ticking over.. well tonight it got worse.

Had a look under it and there seems to be a curved 'shield' round part of the exhaust and it has come off at one end and is rattling againt the exhaust.

Went round to my mates house to see if she had one and she doesnt... so will it be ok to just remove it before it falls off?

Not sure if its a heat sheild or just there to protect the pipe.

sounds like the heat shield for the cat. but not sure if you remove the heat shield dont park over long dry grass in the summer or you will start a fire.

Jappy ... is it metal/plastic ??

I have a bit of plastic off my car at the moment which was covering a bit of exhaust. I'm waiting on a new bracket from Mr T, before I can get it back on.

Where about exactly underneath the car?

Jimlad.. its metal.. dont think plastic would last long next to a hot zorst! its a horizontal section that runs next to the long back box close to the engine.

I dont think my car has a CAT, last time it was done for emmisions on the MOT is said it didnt have one. Dunno tho.

Gonna pull it off OR tie it up again with a jubilee clip.

Would it be better to have that part of the zorst hot?

Cos if its hotter air flow increases right? and u want a nice flow or air coming outa the car...

The shield doesnt affect the temp of the zorst, just stops things like dry grass and the like from making contact with it.

It IS the Cat shield mate! Mine is hanging off too!!! I've now been told by 3 other MR2 owners that it happens over time SO MAKE SURE YOU ALL GET THEM NUTS TIGHTENED!!!
