Opinions On Intergrated Sat Nav's

I have been thinking about adding an intergrated sat nav rather than buying a TomTom etc. and was wondering if anyone else has done this and what did you go for in the end?

This is not a priority at the moment to have one fitted, but as I will need to pick up a sat nav at some point in the near future I was wondering what other drivers think?

So far I have looked at Kenwood and Pionneer which both seem very good, I understand that it has to be a double DIN fitting etc. Is it worth paying the extra for one of these systems when compared to say a top spec Navigon with multimedia functions for £300 - £400 against £1200ish for the intergrated option?

Integrated means it is fitted , tidy and hassle free every time you leave the car ( you don't have to start hiding units under the seat, faf around with cables etc...

plus those units you talk about, some of them have inputs to wire a cam, which you could then setup as a tailgate reversing/parking cam and automatically switched on when you engage reverse... , or at the front as a "track-cam" ;-)

Integrated means you use the Speakers of the car more effectively rather than trying to use a bluetooth or radio connection to your existing audio unit...

also once you setup the GPS antenna under the dash, you can forget about it...

It looks cooler.

Downside , is that it might not give you that much return on investment when you come to sell it with it fitted, compared to without... so you might end up having to remove the lot at the sales point..

Plus I am sure sound and audio performance wise you will get better output form a kenwood or pioneer than a navigon, no matter how much multimedi functions they add, at the end of the day they are a GPS focused-company, Kenwood and Pioneer have proven themselves as Audio experts...

to me there is no doubt if you can afford it... go for it...

next question is... can you get surround adaptor plates and all that stuff... ?
