Lsd For 1995 Rav4 Uk

Hi guys,

Im new to the world of RAV4's - but Ive got an N reg September 1995 2.0 petrol RAV4. Im hoping one of you can help or put me in the right direction.

Ive recently had a low mileage gearbox fitted, but I now need to replace the rear diff.

For a giggle I went to Toyota today in Newcastle, and they quoted £2500 for a rear LSD fully fitted, but on a car of this age, clearly I dont want to pay that amount!

Ive hunted around online and cant find an LSD rear diff anywhere, salvage or otherwise. Not even Jap Parts in Stockton can help.

Does anyone have any clues or contacts for getting LSD rear diffs for the RAV4? Or any ideas where I might try? I think whilst Im replacing transmission parts, Id like to try and fit the optional LSD - ideally from a low mileage car.

Any ideas? Anyone got one they want to sell? Or is there a parts website that anyone can suggest or recommend, Ive found nothing online, no one that specialises in RAV4 parts anyway.

Many thanks,

Carl

welcome to the forum. the best you'll get is a diff from a breaker - perhaps thru partts gateway or similar internet sites that advertise here as well.

The gearbox on the 1st version RAV was pretty robust as is the rear diff. I push more than 3 times the bhp thru the original transmission train (circa 400bhp) and the system is good for at least 350+bhp. Your car is likely to be a 127bhp lump so I'm a bit surprised at it needing another diff...usually its the diff rubber mount that goes - an easy fix.

As for LSD diff, it may be that you could source one from an importer or from USA - I don't think it was an option - not on the very early RAVs in the UK anyway. Hens teeth comes to mind.

Most of the mod specialists for Ravs are in USA or Australia so have a gander thru websites there.

http://www.japparts.com/ are local to me - and quoted £150 for a standard rear diff - guaranteed to have less than 40K miles on it... but Im keen to find the LSD - Ive had bother in the recent winter weather - even with diff lock engaged - car still got stuck. Planning on changing the tyres too - as a final measure - doing a lot of snow driving up in Northumberland at the moment!

Any more thoughts?

Hi Carl, ive used a salvage yard in bradford a few times to buy spares for my 94 rav4. They specialise in 4 x 4's + they're reasonably priced. I paid just £150 a few mths ago for an engine when mine blew up.! Its worth a try. The number is 01274-834790. Good luck.!!

still don't think you'll find a lsd unless from a younger car - have a go at using different tyres - I use Fawlkens for racing and on snow were not too great - blinking marvellous on dry!! If you read some of the posts on here, you'll see a few folk recommending tyres for different situations.

Hey guys, I'm new to the site and I've been searching for an LSD for some time now. I don't know that Toyota ever made an LSD for performance reasons on the Rav4, but I do know that finding a mid to late 90s Supra rear end can be made to fit. There is some modifications that can make it work and it's not that labor intensive. I would think. I've already installed some lowering springs and Bilstein performance shocks and inserts, Bosal BroSpeed cat back exhaust and have recently sent my transmission to get rebuilt with performance internals. I'm in the U.S., unfortunatley, but there are quite few places here that cater to performance stuff on imports such as ours. I came on this site hoping to get an answer for an transfer case issue, but I didn't get an answer back from the moderators in time and I shipped the whole thing as a unit to get rebuilt. The place I used to rebuild my transmission is called IPT (www.importperformancetrans.com). They do a lot of performance rebuilds on imports as well as Domestic American stuff. Any way, I don't wish to bore you with any more about me, but the LSD topic is of great interest to me. I will research what I said about the Supra rear end a bit more so that I'm not putting my foot in my mouth. I'm sure it involves a bit of modification, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Right?

My tarnsfer issue was; how do you separate the transfer unit from the transmission with out cracking the case? Special tools, I guess.

I thought I would throw the question out there just in case any one has had the same difficulty. Thanks.

By the way I own a 1997 5dr, AWD with a 2.0l 3SFE soon to be a swapped with a 3SGTE. Coin pending. The transmission broke a hole in my pocket at a $3,800.00 U.S. Sorry, I don't know the exchange to show it in Euros or Pounds.
