Having searched the forum and read some different posts about fitting larger tyres, I am still unsure and would appreciate your advice.

I am considering fitting 185/55/14 to the standard aygo 14" alloys but I would really like to know if anyone has done this and what effect it had on ride - comfort - noise and any increase in overall grip. Also does any one know when on full lock if there is any tyre fowling inside the wheel arch.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, the standard Aygo alloy wheel is 4.5 inches wide and will accommodate the standard 155 tyre and probably a 165 tyre, but not a 185 tyre. For a tyre of this width, you would need an alloy wheel between 5.5 inches and 6 inches wide.

Exactomondo. I have 185x55/14 on 6in rims. You cannot fit this tyre on a stock Aygo wheel.

However, if you do get wider wheels then this is a good tyre size. It fits with lowering springs on offset 38 without rubbing anywhere. The ride quality will depend on which tyres you get---I use either sport road tyres or competition tyres, both of which have stiff sidewalls and make the ride worse.

Thanks to you both for the heads up, I now know the best way to go.

A 185 on a 6 inch 14 inch wheel and tyre will weigh, in total, a fair bit less than a 195 tyre on 15 inch wheel, and with the Aygo that matters more than a bigger car. If you are feeling pretty flush with cash then forged wheels are the lightest strongest.

Except it doesn't have the Rays (Volk) CE28N in 14x6 listed, which is the one to get :D 3.5kg.

I think 15" are bettter (oooo)

14" alloys just look stupid IMO!

Looks are one thing, roadholding and handling are another, and I'd prefer 14 inch wheels for this reason. If you live in an area with poor and uneven road surfaces, then 15 inch wheels with 195 tyres are going to negatively affect handing, making the car more prone to tramlining, which is not a pleasant sensation. There is also more road noise in the cabin.
