Alarm Problem

Hi guys, noob here, just looking for advice on a strange problem ive been having with the car alarm in my Celica SSII, ive searched through the threads and seen some other problems with the alarm but this one seems to be different then anything posted here before.

the scenario is:

1. park celica, close all doors and boot, lock and alarm using the keyfob

2. leave car for about an hour and the alarm goes off

3. if i unlock it after the alarm has gone off, i cant rearm it

4. if i drive the car somewhere, then try to lock/rearm the alarm, it works again

Anytime i leave it in my carpark for the office or the underground car park for the night, i return to see that the red lcd light on the dashboard is lit and the lights flash 3 times instead of 2, when i unlock it (i know the 3 times flash means that the alarm has gone off at some stage)

this was happening before i changed the Battery in the car (recently) and is still happening regularly

i know the alarm rearms after 30 seconds of going off, but its hard to ignore your baby screaming for help everyday

Please help me Toyota Owners Club - Celica Forum, your my only hope.

The interior sensor system may be a little over sensitive. This is adjustable on the control unit that will be situated under the area where your handbrake and gear lever etc is.

how can i access this? can i do it from inside the car or do i have to get underneath it? once i have access to it, what should I be looking for or doing to it?

ive only just checked this thread now because its gone off again while parked outside the office

You can get to it from within the car. You need to pull up the surround that is around the gear lever etc. It's all one piece and just unclips with a good pull. If you can find the box it will have an adjustment screw on it. Otherwise, you're looking at undoing some screws (one or two are inside the arm rest cubby hole under the inner carpet) and removing the centre console that goes round the hand brake etc.

Was trying to find a guide on how to take it all apart but can't seem to find one. If you come across a guide to fitting a short shift gear stick, that will cover it too.

Ok opened it up, found a little black box with small dial on the front of it, there doesnt seem to be anything stopping the dial going all the way back and then forward too, so you can just keep twisting it. I turned it all the way back. Got out of the car, pressed down on the bonnett to see if it would go off, nope. I left it in a garage over night, came back this morning to find the LCD lit and 3 flashes when i unlocked :(

Later today, I will twist the dial all the way clockwise in what I would imagine to be more sensitive and see what happens.

If ive tried both ways and still the same problem, what are my options?

thanks for the help so far guys!

Door, bonnet and boot switches? I hear the door switches can be a little dodgy and they're built into the door lock.
