Engine Management Light, Loss Of Power Etc

Over the last couple of months we have had the engine management light come on, loss of power. Stop the engine, wait, starts runs ok for weeks.

Took the Rav (02 plate Diesel, 126,000miles) to the local dealer who raid the codes and suggested they were from the fact that the garage we bought the Rav from had when servicing and changing cam belt etc had disconnected sensor cables whilst the keys were in the ignition. They only charged for the time and felt relieved it was not the turbo.

Next day the same problem whilst going around a roundabout. Phoned garage and arrange to bring it back in this morning to read the codes foc.

Today on the way in to the garage the same happened again to my wife roughly the same difference from home. Outcome lots of codes they said but believe it is a cabling fault in the loom. Need the car booked in for 3 to 4 hours to find the fault (that is if there is a fault!) - I could be in for a big bill and no fault, or a cabling loom install after that

What may be connected but cold simply be coincidence is this only happens in the morning when its cold, heater on but not the air con.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with a Toyota dealer, any ideas?

Thanks

Graeme

Now the temperature outside if above freezing this problem appears to have gone. Anyone else had a similar problem?

I had same problem and after many false starts, I got round to replacing fuel filter. This is not on service charts and only replaced when needed. Solved my problem. There is detailed instructions in workshop section, only took an hour.
