Yellow Headlamps

The headlamps on my Yaris have that really annoying yellow tinge to them. They've had it for a while but its not really bothered me until now when it would appear a large proportion of my mates are getting brand new Audi's - is someone handing out money to people in secret somewhere? :S Its quite obvious when i've just cleaned the alloys to my usual high standards and you look at the car from a side point of view.

Anyways, I did try an abrasive cream on them in the summer which worked a little bit but they're starting to annoy me. Has anyone got a good solution to firstly cure this problem and then prevent it from happening again (short of buying new covers)?

Thanks in advance. :)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the surface of your headlights are permanently ruined.

Abrasive creams/pastes should not be used on polycarbonate lenses, they destroy the protective UV layer.

Try this link: http://www.ibc34.com/Onestep.html

It maybe too late to recover your headlights but you'll learn how not to treat them in the future.

Damn, thats a pain. I have a feeling the previous owner tried the same trick so at least the damage wasn't solely done by me. ><

I'll probably have a look around the local scrappy for a newer set of lamps soon then.

Thanks for the link. Much appreciated stantheman1! :)

Do a serach on the detailing World web site. They have a number of threads from people successfully using polishing products and tools to remove the yellow tarnish and applying UV resistant coatings afterwards to restore the protection...

Thanks alfiejts! That'll save me a bit of cash!

I shall give this a try in the near future and keep you all informed.
