Hi to all,

I have a 4.2 xt3 petrol (2004) and love it but can anyone help I cannot work out why I cannot find my alarm interior sensors.

It appears that my Rav does not have movement detection inside the car is this right ???? can't believe it has no interior protection.

If so can they be added and where is the alarm contol box where they could be added.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

They are not visible I think but hidden away somewhere.

you could test this out by sitting in the car and using the remote to lock the car. keep dead still for a minute and then move your arms around and the alarm should go off.

Key Fob works as follows:

1 press - locks doors, sets alarm

2 presses - DEADLOCKS doors, sets alarm

3 presses - locks doors (not sure if deadlocks this time?), sets alarm and DISABLES interior alarm sensors (use if locking small animals, children and mother-in-laws in car so they cannot set alarm off when trying to escape)

HTH!

Hi

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the 4.2 XT3 does not have internal sensors this was only fitted to the XT4.

The sensor unit on the XT4 is microwave and fitted behind the dash (its not visible unless you remove the glove compartment).

There was a previous thread that covered this that's worth reading

Have read the thread useful but does not state if you can add the sensors to the existing alarm.

Any views or help with this.

The complete alarm fitted to the XT4 has quite a few components, the install PDF is below

It might be possible to add the microwave sensor if ;

1) The alarm ECU on the XT3 and XT4 are the same

2) You could locate the correct microwave unit from Toyota or a breakers

3) you have the correct wiring harness

4) you could figure out if any programming changes are required in the ECU

I would wonder if the cost and effort is worth it.
