Power Steering ......... What Next ?

Just seen on Sky news (as not in the country ATM) that Toyota now reckon that they've got a power steering problems with some of their cars !! Any idea if it affects our little cars ?

*As a side note*

When I first got my Roadster there were a few of them that had power steering pump failures. Back then (all of seven years ago) when it failed, there wasn't his hyper panic that the car was about to self destruct because something "Might" go wrong, the steering went stiff, we took it to the dealer, the pump was replaced under warranty and we went happily on our way. ;)

i think the newspapaers and news latest thing is having a go at toyota,i think a car company last year had a problem with there bonnett flying open at certain times,i think it was on watchdog,i think the car company in question did not want to know,that did not cause some much press histeria.maybe its because its more to do with american car companys having a go,maybe they think people will start buying american made cars again,after all they are so much more reliable,i know their are a few problems with toyota at the moment but they still make good cars.my old fiat had lots if problems,from new you could not sit in traffic with the engine running because the car would overheat.i still like my toyota and the dealers are some of the best.

that car was the renault clio. I had one of those at the time. To be fair, the catch was really flimsy and made of plastic but if you lubed it, it was fine.

Toyota is aware of customer complaints from owners of Corolla models in the USA.

This vehicle, 2009/2010 Corolla sedan is not sold in the UK.

The Corolla model sold in the UK up to 2007 is a different car.

The media reporting appears to have followed a misunderstanding of what Mr. Sasaki (TMC EVP) said at the press conference yesterday in response to a question from AP reporter.

The question related to customer complaints about 2009/2010 Corolla sold in the USA.

Mr Sasaki's answer was:

1) Toyota recognise there are complaints and

2) we take every customer complaint seriously and judge each one at its own merits.

3) At this stage, for this specific issue, we have not been contacted by NHTSA.

Some media in attendance misunderstood that Toyota is studying recall. This is not the case.

The latest information that we have regarding this matter is that Automotive News (a USA based specialist Automotive publication) published the following story on Feb 9:

"NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) fielding complaints about 2009-10 Toyota Corolla steering. - Agency may open probe after reports of unintended veering"

The following comment has been made by Toyota in the USA:

Toyota has not received any 'resume' (official letter) from NHTSA regarding a possible issue with Toyota Corolla steering. In any case, Toyota will provide its full cooperation to any investigations deemed necessary.

Its just the press (in england) making a big thing about nothing, evryones coming out the recession, getting back on their feet again. What do the press do, shoot them back down. I feel sorry for toyota. The way the press are going on about it makes it sound like we will all die in our toyotas tomorrow as the accelerator will get stuck (obviously no ones heard of putting the clutch down and taking it out of gear, then u'll be fine) the brakes will fail (only on the prius) and now the power steering (oh no, we will have to use a bit of effort to drive again).

As far as i'm concerned Toyota are one of the best car manufactures out there, their service is excellent and at least they've taken the responsibility to own up to these MINOR problems and not only that, repair every single one on the whole planet!

My Agyo MMT had a sticky accelerator and it had no clutch I could operate... I didn't know I could safely put it into neutral. I still don't know if the semi-auto can be towed either if it broke down. The dealer didn't seem clear on this point either lol! The driving test just doesn't equip new drivers with any know-how of what to do if things go wrong.

Notice how Honda seems to have got off very very lightly off the back of poor old Toyota? Cars catching fire and an airbag that could rip someone's face to bits with shrapnel?

I'd rather have the Toyota problems (I did) over the Honda ones or that Clio bonnet problem any day.

The VOSA website lists umpteen recalls for Renault since 2000, air bags going off, UNINTENDED ACCELLERATION, and cars cars bursting into flames. I don't think Toyota have too much to worry about. Yes Toyota have issues and they are being addressed in a positive manner and very openly, I don't think you could ask any more of them

How many journalists drive a Toyota?

How much would journalists have to pay back if their expense claims (and free junkets) had to be refunded?

Now ask how fair and unbiased all the reporting is on things such as MP expenses and car recalls.
