Adding Fater Market Cd Player - Problem With Lcd

Hi All,

I posted this before at the back of the workshop entry and I'm not sure that anyone saw it!

I've just added a JVC KD-SH55R to my Yaris (to replace the tape player) and it works fine. The instructions in the workshop are clear and it really isn't a difficult job.

However...... I have a problem. My LCD display (with the temperature, fuel consumption figures etc.) is ALWAYS ON (yes, even when I remove the key and lock the car). Putting all the audio connectors back into the tape player makes it turn off when the ignition key is removed.

Can anyone help please?

I seems like the LCD display 'knows' when the tap player is switched on and so it expects to have to display something. As the CD player is always on (to keep its memory) then so is the LCD display.

I am guessing that I could remove the permanent live from the CD player OR (and this is where I am hoping that someone can help) I remove the appropriate connector from the LCD display that signals that the tape/CD player is on.

Thanks in advance!

Darren.

how do!

did you use the autoleads harness adaptor or did you chop the wires into the original loom?

Hi there,

I used the ISO adapter mentioned in the workshop that I bought from Halfords (the PC2-17-4).

This morning I did test out my theory and it seems to hold. I disconnected the permanent live form the ISO connector and the LCD display now does go off with the ignition. I'm not sure what this means to the CD player as I haven't had much time to investigate. However, it does seem to still remember the radio stations (so it must have some non volatile memory).

Cheers,

Darren.

Hi, I used the same ISO adapter as you at the weekend. My Yaris has a CD player as stock. But when I added the Pioneer (which incidentally does have volatile memory) the LCD screen now lights up when ever the key is turned to acc or on. Before the LCD backlight would only function with the other backlights... Not exactly a problem tho'...

Hi there,

Yeah - I have the same 'backlight always on' quirk too. I don't quite understand this one. You'd think that the back light would be turned on when the headlights go on - that makes sense to me.

I'd still like to work it out though - I hate not knowing why (just the way I am!).

Darren.
