Hi i havnt been able to use my celica gt4 in months because it failed mot due to high emissions and no cat but reciently ive been told that imports dont need a cat and an emission test is not required or if it is its not as tight, but the mot centre dont agree, can any1 help me out as lots of my mates have also said it doesnt need a cat due to import. its the st205 1994 i was aware that uk spec needed 1 after aug1992. can some 1 please tell me it doesnt need 1. many thanks

You definately need a cat - the same as a UK car. Anything after 92/K reg needs a cat.

how ever due to it being an import, it doesn't need one upto 1995 IIRC.

there is a loop hole that if the car hasn't got a direct UK equivalent then the cat test doesn't apply. as the import ST-205 has no EGR system and the UK one does, you can get around it ;) .explain this to the tester. if he still wont do it find an MOT place that will
